Mastering drifts in Nitro Horizon

June 20, 2026 · Marek Novák

Nitro Horizon lives and dies on its drift mechanic, and for the first evening we were terrible at it. The game rewards early, committed drifts, not the panicked ones we kept throwing out.

The trick is to start your drift just before the corner rather than in the middle of it. Begin early, hold the line, and let the boost build. Chaining drifts across linked corners fills your boost meter fastest.

Tilt controls felt best to us once we lowered the sensitivity a notch. The default was twitchy, but a small adjustment made the car feel planted. If tilt isn't your thing, the touch option is perfectly fine too.

Learn each track's rhythm. These courses repeat their corner patterns, so after a few laps you'll start drifting on instinct. That's when the lap times really drop.

Once drifting clicks, the whole game transforms from frustrating to flowing, and shaving seconds becomes genuinely addictive.
